Our first graders had a wonderful time learning, tasting, and experimenting with all things apples for their Apple Unit which covered a variety of subject areas.

Throughout the unit, they learned how apples grow and are harvested, the many delicious things that can be made with apples, and the story of Johnny Appleseed and his impact on apple orchards in America. 

Kids also participated in fun hands-on activities. They were graphing their favorite kind of apples - red, yellow or green. For science, they investigated which solution would best keep apples from turning brown. 

Finally, to wrap up the unit, they peeled apples to make homemade applesauce. It was a big hit!
