Over 300 Alamo Elementary School grandparents joined their grandchildren on Friday, May 8th for the Grandparent’s Day celebration, filling the building with fun and excitement from Alamo students.

The event takes place every other year, and began with a welcome assembly led by Principal Nicole Knight-Lucas. Students showcased their public speaking skills by sharing messages of gratitude and appreciation for the impact that their grandparents have had and will continue to have on their lives.

The assembly also featured a fun trivia activity, asking grandparents to stand when a statement applied to them. The questions were geared towards impressing students with their grandparents' lives and accomplishments, including questions like who had been married the longest (66 years!), who had traveled the farthest (Strausberg, Germany), and who had the most grandchildren (44 great-grandchildren and grandchildren). Students were blown away to learn about the lives of their grandparents.

Throughout the day, grandparents enjoyed an extended recess with their Alamo student, as well as learning games focused around STEAM, arts, and reading.

Planning for the event was led by PTO President and School Tutor Annie Pruis alongside Principal Nicole Knight-Lucas. Additional support was provided by staff and volunteers who assisted with parking and event logistics, and a huge "thank you" goes to the Otsego Public Schools Facilities and Maintenance team for setting up risers and seating for guests.

Thank you to the grandparents who came from near and far to share their life and love with Alamo students!
