Boyz on the Move

Boyz on the Move is a self-esteem program for boys, much like Girls on the Run. Otsego teacher Mary Reitenour started the program in the spring of 2011 as a way to also help boys transition into adolescence.

The boys spend six weeks exploring and talking about different character traits that will help them become better men and assist them as they face the difficulties of growing up. The boys participate in motivational and team-building activities and hear from guest speakers that could include high school students or community members. Each week focuses on a different character trait:

  • Self-esteem
  • Sportsmanship
  • Teamwork
  • Anger Management
  • Gentlemen Skills
  • Power of Positive Thoughts.

Boyz on the Move meets twice a week after school. Each meeting starts with a healthy snack and "good things". They engage in an activity then train for the 5K Triathlon (bike 1 3/4 mile, run 1 mile, and swim 1/4 mile) that takes place at the very end of the program.

Look for sign-up information in February or March.
