Alamo's school social worker, Meg Takace, has a family dog training to be a therapy dog - Finnegan. She brings him in on Fridays to get him better acquainted and socialized around kids, but it's a win-win. Finnegan is a big help to a lot of students.
Dogs are great at providing a sense of calm and has helped students who are feeling anxious. Finnegan needs his exercise, too, so at recess, there are students who run him around that can also benefit from extra physical activity. When kids are physically active, it helps them focus in class.
In addition, he's teaching students responsibility and good behavior to those who volunteer to be his special helper.
And for all kids - he provides big smiles just being there and enjoying the attention from the kids!
