At Alamo Elementary we are a family! The staff here is dedicated to building strong, long-lasting relationships with all of our students and families. We believe that in order to teach a child, you first have to capture their heart. Families at Alamo value the small, rural family feel that Alamo has to offer and appreciate how the staff gets to know each child individually.
At Alamo Elementary we “Expect Excellence”. Staff, students and families are proud of our high academic expectations and achievements. We are committed to continuous learning to help ALL students succeed through daily participation in Professional Learning Communities known as PLC’s. PLC’s provide opportunities for staff to collaborate on Essential Learning Targets, Formative and Summative Assessments, student data and best instructional practices. As a staff, we believe that ALL students can learn at high levels and have a sustainable Response to Intervention structure that not only provides additional instruction for students, but extension and enrichment.
As a building we focus our attention and measure the academic outcomes in the areas of Reading, Writing and Mathematics. We are especially proud of our focus on reading over the past several years. Motivating students to read and building a love for reading is important to the staff, so each year every student receives a book bag to carry their library books to and from school in as well as a book box in their classroom that they select good fit books for. Teachers use a workshop model to provide daily mini-lessons, guided and independent practice. During the workshop time teachers focus on meeting with students one on one or in small groups to assess, instruct and set goals with students. Students at Alamo are readers and love to read!
Otsego Public schools has a lot to offer it’s students. During the day students participate in an extensive specials schedule including: Spanish, Technology, Health, Music, Art & PE. Additional in school activities include, Student Council for 3rd-5th grade, Conflict Manager program, Jump Start, Book Buddies, and Mileage Club. A few of our extracurricular activities include: Lego Robotics, Girls on the Run, Boyz on the Move, PAWS (Physical Activity With Spirit), Destination Imagination, Battle of the Books, and Stars. One unique feature to Alamo is it’s Lego Lab where teachers can enhance the learning process using a STEM base. The lab provides lego kits from the Pre-K beyond 5th grade in which students can explore math concepts with Duplo Café sets, practice their author skills with Lego story boards, investigate science concepts and learn beginning programing skills.
Alamo Elementary is proud to offer our children a warm, nurturing environment that provides a high, quality educational experience for ALL students.
